ABOUT THE INSTITUTE
“It’s about the Learner’s Journey!”
Designed for college faculty, curriculum and assessment committee members, and key leaders and administrators responsible for developing and assessing outcome-based curriculum.
Bring a course or program that you can work on and share with the group
Consider bringing a team so you can work on your project together and maximize your investment
Using the Deschutes River as metaphor, this 2¼ day hands-on work session will immerse participants in a new “story.” You will experience learner-centered instruction and your own learner’s journey as you engage in structured learning activities that will build your skills and increase your confidence in coaching others to:
-
Develop and improve comprehensive, robust learning outcomes at the program and course level that answer the question, What will learners need to be able to DO “out there” in the rest of life that we are responsible for “in here”?
-
Determine appropriate assessment tasks that answer the question, What will learners do “in here” to demonstrate evidence of the learning outcomes?
-
Develop and improve assessment plans, criteria, and rubrics that can be used to measure learning and determine course/program improvements that answers the question What does good look like?
-
Use a backward design methodology to determine essential and relevant content that answers the question, What concepts, issues, and skills must the learners demonstrate to meet the learning outcomes?
TIME TO REFLECT, SHARE, AND LEARN WITH OTHERS
Bring your walking shoes! Sunday evening we will gather at Farewell Bend Park at the large picnic shelter for a dessert reception and metaphor walk along the Deschutes River. We will use the experience and wisdom of the group and the organizational patterns of a river system, which has the power to transform college structures and practices. Each morning will begin with net-walking where you can meet and share with colleagues as you walk along the river. An open forum and reflection, a dinner where you can share success, challenges and best practices, and a CASE session are included to support your learner’s journey developing your skills and building your confidence in leading others in this critical work.
FOLLOW UP SUPPORT AND RESOURCES
Each participant will receive a set of The OUTCOME Primer Series (TOPS) 2.0 (a $255 value) that you can reference during the institute and share with others when you return to your college.
